Teaching Points

  • Pulmonary aspergillosis can be acute/chronic and present as nodules, cavities, and fibrosis
  • Patients with aspergilloma who are symptomatic, such as hemoptysis, surgical resection is indicated
    • Tissue to buttress bronchial stump
    • Continue antifungal agents after surgery
  • Embolization is an option, especially if not a candidate for surgery
  • Cavitary aspergillosis is usually treated with prolonged antifungal therapy (Voriconazole, micafungin, or amphotericin B)
