2024 STS Mastering Valve Surgery Workshop

Activity Description

This unique two-day course includes lectures, case-based presentations, and up to 11 breakout sessions in which attendees will gain hands-on experience with a variety of procedures and devices. The purpose of the event is to guide cardiac surgeons in mastering modern-day valve surgery, including all aspects of open and transcatheter valve surgery, including aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valves. Additionally, there is a session dedicated to atrial fibrillation. The workshop covers advanced valve techniques such as aortic root enlargement, Ross, and minimally invasive valve surgery and will feature the transcatheter therapies that the surgeons must know.

This activity contains the Overall Evaluation required to claim credit for attending the 2024 STS Mastering Valve Surgery Workshop, held in Chicago, IL.

Target Audience

Cardiothoracic surgeons, trainees in fellowship, residents, including those in an integrated I-6 program. Advanced practice providers and valve coordinators are invited to enhance the heart team concept.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Establish advanced, open valve surgical techniques including complex aortic valve repair/replacement, Ross procedure, complex mitral/tricuspid repair. 
  • Obtain skills in transcatheter valve techniques including TAVR, M-TEER and other advanced therapies. 
  • Acquire skills in arrhythmia therapy including MAZE and left atrial appendage occlusion devices. 
  • Apply the knowledge and skills to your clinical practice.
