2022 STS Annual Meeting Online: Challenging the Status Quo: Social Media in Cardiothoracic Surgery
This session aims to demonstrate the potential of the use of social media as a tool to advance the careers, increase the visibility, and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion of cardiothoracic surgeons of today and tomorrow. The session, hosted by the Thoracic Surgery Social Media Network (TSSMN), convenes experts from all stages of their careers and across cardiothoracic disciplines to share their experiences and practical lessons to optimize the audience’s use of social media in today’s interconnected world.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the impact of the role of social media tools, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, blogs, and personal websites, for the cardiothoracic surgeon/trainee.
- Use social media to more effectively grow one’s professional network, foster mentorship and sponsorship, generate and disseminate research, and advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in our specialty.
- Apply practical lessons to maintain a healthy online-offline balance in today’s virtual, hybrid, and interconnected world.
