  • Mycobacterium avium complex is a nontuberculous mycobacterial infection
    • Mycobacterium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, and Mycobacterium chimaera
  • Usually treated with three-drug regimens
    • Inhaled agents can be used for treatment failure
  • Treatment continued until cultures are negative for at least 12 months
  • Drug related toxicities can occur
  • Surgical resection is considered in patients with cavitary disease, treatment failure, and resistant infections. Consider flap coverage of the bronchial stump.
